This year, Coventry University has commissioned us to curate a mini Deliaphonic alongside DOT DOT DOT…Graduate Festival 2025, a dynamic platform showcasing the creativity and innovation of their graduating students. This is a private and free event. However, limited spaces are available for our Deliaphonic audience.

In 2017 Delia was awarded by the university a posthumous honorary doctorate.

The project provides a direct point of contact between the local community, the university, and its industries allowing the city, its residents and visitors to engage with the creative work Coventry’s students are producing.

Heady songwriting, ethereal jazz and krauty blues stomps are all featured. The Lidders include members of Elkhorn and Bardo Pond and are currently based in Philadelphia PA.
——-
The Crystal Teardrop: Inspired by a mutual passion for the sights, sounds and creative experimentation of the mid to late 1960s, The Crystal Teardrop, with its unique blend of garage rock, psychedelia and acid folk, is forming.
——–
The Muthas: The Muthas is the story about three funky brothers bound by a love for the blues and the grooves.

The Hazytones is a stoner rock band founded in 2015 in Montreal.

Psych/Doom/Stoner Metallers The Hazytones return with Wild Fever which is their first new album in over six years. The record sees the band become more destructive, aggressive and heavier compared to their previous albums. Wild Fever is full of passionate 1970’s Hard Rock sounds and seedy Fuzzy Psychedelics which merges the street level style of Doom/Stoner Metal which is heard throughout the record.

Nap Eyes
After three years of silence, the Canadian band Nap Eyes have returned with their own meditations on the monstrous and familiar (or the monstrously familiar). The Neon Gate, their metamorphic fifth long-player, collects a cache of nine fascinating reveries recorded over the four years since their last album, Snapshot of a Beginner(five of which were released episodically throughout the spring and summer of 2024). “I See Phantoms of Hatred and of the Heart’s Fullness and of the Coming Emptiness,” the album’s colossal penultimate track, is, along with “Demons,” their languorous adaptation of a phantasmagorical poem by Russian Romantic Alexander Pushkin (1799–1837), one of two ambitious but adept adaptations in which singer and principal songwriter Nigel Chapman unravels knotty, century-old verse into a fluid, memorable melodies across the loom of the band’s pulsing instrumental syncretism.

This fresh engagement with narrative and lyric formality complements the seven original songs on the record, which reveal classic Naps touchstones (the uneasy interplay of physics and philosophy, the nexus of fantasy and science fiction, perambulatory descriptions of landscape and weather, self-interrogating soliloquies, apertures of surreality, technological anxiety, video games), but also evidence of divergent impulses toward nonlinear abstraction and longform improvisational composition (resulting in their most discursive, deconstructed, and deliquescent songs to date). With The Neon Gate Nap Eyes have transmuted, as has their understanding of what a song is, what it can do, where it might go.

Eliza Niemi
On Progress Bakery, her second album as a solo artist, Eliza knows to leave some questions alone – to let juxtaposition and tension be the proof. It doesn’t have to be hard. The feelings and revelations they provoke rise in the heat. The smell is sweet. Crispy on the outside and soft all the way through. She playfully slip-slides through words and sounds and images, delighting in surprise, skimming ideas like stones cast across clear water, touching down briefly with uncommon grace.

Sink or Swim present The Deep Dark Woods (Solo) + Austin Stambaugh

Sunday 11 May 2025
7:30 pm - 11:00 pm
£14 Adv (+ BF)
The Tin At The Coal Vaults

One might be tempted to think of the Deep Dark Woods as a band steeped in capital T tradition, and that may be true, but now nearly two decades into their life as one of Canada’s finest folk roots ensembles, that tradition is one of their own invention. The voice of founding member Ryan Boldt sits at the forefront of the band, and it doesn’t take long to reveal that he is a master of subtlety and shading, working in the lineage of iconic singers like Bob Dylan, Bert Jansch, Rick Danko, and Jason Molina.

Originally from north east Ohio, but now located to Nashville, this is the folk/country balladeer & songster Austin Stambaugh first UK visit. A modern pioneer of folk storytelling, his work has been called “timeless and nuanced,” by Lilly Hiatt &” the best flat picking songwriter you’ve never heard of ” by folk singer Tim Easton.

Stambaugh’s aesthetic is timeless standards, and terrifying compositions that hold a listener in suspense. “Austin Stambaugh tells true American stories with the power of Kerouac and the wonder of Huck
Finn.” – Americana UK .

Sink or Swim presents Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys + Leave Your Body Behind + Those Amongst Us Are Wolves

Thursday 15 May 2025
7:30 pm - 11:00 pm
£10 Adv (+ BF)
The Tin At The Coal Vaults

Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys, a Berlin-based art-pop and tender noise ensemble, have captivated audiences across Europe with their atmospheric and intense performances. Led by South African-born artist Lucy Kruger (guitar and vocals) and featuring Liú Mottes (guitar), Jean-Louise Parker (viola and vocals), Gidon Carmel (drums), and Reuben Kemp (bass), the band’s music is both intimate and angular—droning and dream-like in moments, driving, direct, and on the edge of desperation in others. Caringly confrontational.

For fans of PJ Harvey, Blonde Redhead, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Sonic Youth, Cate Le Bon.

SOLD OUT – Deliaphonic Presents Snapped Ankles

The Tin At The Coal Vaults

Snapped Ankles outsider status has always allowed them to hold a mirror up to society. Now the boundaries are not so clear. In the years since Come Play The Trees was released, their cult has flourished. Their album Stunning Luxury saw the band invited to play the BBC 6 Music Festival and a KEXP session on the back of a sold-out UK tour which culminated with two nights at Village Underground in London. As those who have witnessed the shamanic ritual of their live shows will attest, they are a truly unique, communal experience.
