The Tin Music and Arts, in collaboration with Kamona Records and Supported by Jazz Midlands, with funding from Arts Council England announces Jazz at the Vaults

As part of Black History Month, Jazz at the Vaults celebrates the richness of Black musical heritage and the everlasting influence of Black artists on jazz and its evolving sounds. On the 27th of October, we gather artists together who draw inspiration from jazz in their own unique ways.

The evening explores the connections between jazz, alternative soul and contemporary sounds as we create a space for individuality, cultural expression and musical discovery.

Featuring Janique James, ONYINYÉ,Sena and INA, the programme celebrates artists who challenge conventions, blend genres and bring their own identities and experiences into their music. Rooted in the spirit of jazz, the evening will culminate in a collaborative jazz jam session, inviting musicians to connect through improvisation, experimentation and shared creativity.

This is more than a performance night. It is Jazz at the Vaults. A home to celebrate Black creativity, community and the ongoing evolution of jazz. honouring its roots while embracing the artists shaping its future.

Formed in 2020, An Dannsa Dub (led by Tom Spirals and Euan McLaughlin) have been making

waves. Twice nominated for Live Act of the Year at the Scots Trad Awards as well as the ’23

SAMAs, the band has garnered critical acclaim for their ability to seamlessly blend the mystical sounds of Gaelic song and traditional Scottish instruments with the pulsating rhythms and deep basslines of digital dub.

An Dannsa Dub have electrified crowds across the UK festival circuit and beyond, including Glastonbury Festival, Celtic Connections, Dubcamp (France), and Goa Sunsplash (India).

Their distinctive sound, fuelled by top-tier musicians, continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

Inspired by a mutual passion for the sights, sounds and creative experimentation of the late 1960s, the band’s music demonstrates an innate affection for classic artists such as The Beatles and The Kinks alongside West Coast favourites including The Great Society, Love and The Byrds and Paisley Underground favourites The Bangles and The Pandoras as well as contemporary bands like The Lemon Twigs and Temples.

The five-piece, based in the Midlands UK, features Alexandra Rose and Stuart Gray who both regularly DJ vinyl collections sourced from across the globe and host club nights including London’s Reverberation, Liverpool’s Compact Pussycat Club and Leicester’s Biff Bang Pow; Leon Jones whose previous kaleidoscopic exploits with Alfa 9 add an extra dimension to the band dynamic; performance artist and magician Ed Quigley and multi-instrumentalist Huw Woodward.

Celebrating the legacy of Midnite / Akae Beka

Coventry’s all female sound system, Sisters In Dub, brings the community together for a special gathering honouring Vaughn Benjamin, the legendary voice and lyrical force behind Midnite and Akae Beka.

On 4th November 2019, Vaughn transitioned from this earthly plane. As we mark seven years since his passing, we celebrate a legacy that continues to awaken minds, nourish souls and challenge the way we see the world.

As a scholar, poet and master lyricist, Vaughn’s music reached far beyond reggae. Rooted in Rastafari, his words explored spirituality, philosophy, history, ancient wisdom, science, consciousness, numerology, social injustice and humanity’s connection to one another and the natural world. His music was a call to question, reason, seek knowledge and live with greater awareness.

Words, Sound & Power is a space to reconnect with the message, reflect on the teachings and share in the power of conscious roots music.

Powered by Sisters In Dub sound system, expect a deep, 100% Midnite and Akae Beka selection, a communal drumming circle and a listening and reasoning session exploring the words, wisdom and enduring message of Vaughn Benjamin.

Joined by Guest selector ‘Iman’ from Birmingham, we invite you to come together in unity, share knowledge and celebrate a voice whose message remains as relevant and necessary today as ever.
