The Tin At The Coal Vaults

Seb Rochford’s Finding Ways

In 2003, drummer Sebastian Rochford formed Polar Bear – a contemporary jazz group that, over the next decade, helped define a new era in British music. Their sound was bold, open-hearted, and influential, earning two Mercury Prize nominations and widespread acclaim. Since then, Seb’s distinctive voice has been heard across a broad spectrum of music, collaborating with artists including Patti Smith, Damon Albarn, Grace Jones and Brian Eno. This year he returns as a bandleader with Finding Ways, layering up to three guitars at a time around his drums and bass, the album featuring ten different guitarists. He’s joined by a remarkable set of collaborators and guests including – Tara Cunningham, David Preston and Anders Christensen – each adding something unmistakably their own and it’s this space they’re given to be themselves that defines the sound. This is honest music-making. Nothing is forced. Nothing boxed in. Finding Ways. That’s what Seb is doing—musically, emotionally, personally.

‘The Finding Ways music is about Finding Ways to keep positive and navigate the world around us’.

Sink or Swim present Malin Lewis + Special Guests

The Tin At The Coal Vaults

In a trailblazing new solo work, innovator – award winning – multi-instrumentalist Malin Lewis deep dives into a hypnotic envisioned world of ancient Scottish folk music on fiddle and a newly invented, self made bagpipe.

Exploring laments, improvisation, circular melody, jigs and reels, Malin performs an entrancing cycle of melodies that deconstruct and re-define the traditions they grew up within.

Having toured across the UK, Canada and Europe, Malin released their celebrated debut album ‘Halocline’ in May 2024 on Hudson Records. A Halocline is a visible layer that forms between salt and fresh water and is home to a unique microbial ecosystem.

Malin’s unique timbre is born from the deep connection that comes from making and composing for their own instrument. Their one of a kind two-octave Smallpipe creates a whole new world of sound, captivating audiences at every opportunity.

Inspired by the likes of Martyn Bennett, Duncan Chisholm and Sharron Shannon their music is as lively as it is thought provoking and sensitive. Recently Malin has been recording music for The Outrun starring Saoirse Ronan, composing for contemporary dance and theatre and has been learning the tradition of the extinct Finnish Bagpipes.

Sink or Swim present Ida Wenøe & Samantha Whates Sun, Apr 26, 2026 at 7:30-11:00 PM

The Tin At The Coal Vaults

When Ida Wenøe and Samantha Whates take the stage together, it’s not your typical double headline show where one artist follows the other. Instead, they weave their performances into something far more collaborative and unexpected.

The two songwriters combine their set lists into a seamless flow, often without revealing who wrote which song. This approach creates a narrative that goes beyond what either achieves alone—an unfolding story that draws you in, song by song.

Rather than stepping aside, they share the stage from start to finish, featuring on each other’s songs with harmonies, instrumental layers, and a natural ease that comes from genuine connection, respect and long time friendship. Expect two full sets that are immersive, multi-instrumental, and brimming with warmth, love and laughter.

One of the most striking aspects of their collaboration is how it defies the competitive edge often projected onto women in music. Here, you witness the opposite: two artists lifting each other up, creating space for their songs to breathe together, and celebrating what happens when voices, stories, and talents intertwine.

This is a performance that’s part concert, part conversation, and wholly unique—an evening where the joy of collaboration takes center stage.

Sink or Swim presents Charlie Parr

Saturday 23 May 2026
7:30 pm - 11:00 pm
Early bird £18 | Advance £20 (+ booking fee)
The Tin At The Coal Vaults

In the music of Charlie Parr, there is a sincere conviction and earnest drive to create. The Minnesota-born guitarist, songwriter, and interpreter of traditional music has released 19 albums over two decades and has been known to perform up to 275 shows a year. Parr is a folk troubadour in the truest sense: taking to the road between shows, writing and rewriting songs as he plays, fueled by a belief that music is eternal and cannot be claimed or adequately explained. The bluesman poet pulls closely from the sights and sounds around him, his lyrical craftsmanship built by his influences. The sounds from his working-class upbringing—including Folkways legends such as Lead Belly and Woody Guthrie—imbue Parr’s music with stylistic echoes of blues and folk icons of decades past. Parr sees himself merely as a continuer of a folk tradition: “I feel like I stand on a lot of big shoulders,” he said in an interview. “I hope that I’ve brought a little bit of myself to the music.”

With a discography simultaneously transcendental in nature and grounded in roots music, Charlie Parr is the humble master of the 21st century folk tradition.

In his 2024 release, Little Sun, Parr weaves together stories celebrating music, community, and communing with nature. Putting forth an ambitious and raw album that exemplifies the best of Parr’s sound: a blend of the blues and folk traditions he continues to carry with him and the steadfast originality of a poet.
