What is Blindspot Nights?
Blindspot Nights is a new scratch night in Coventry supporting working/under-class theatremakers in the Midlands with a paid opportunity to share their work. We strive to be a new and exciting opportunity for artists and audiences to be a part of how new theatre in the region takes shape.
Come along each month to see two brand new pieces of theatre being developed. Feedback your thoughts, chat to artists in the bar, and maybe even submit your own work for our August and September events (submissions deadline 10th July, head to our website to find out more.)
Our July programme:
‘Skin Shedder’ by Rebecca Lucia
‘”Skin Shedder” is inspired by true events, following Stevie, a young actress navigating the world of performance. it explores Stevie’s journey and her entanglement in the dangers of being young, online, and hungry for opportunity.’
(CW: simulated sex acts on stage, themes of sex work and exploitation.)
‘The Exchange’ by Steve Nijjar
‘A working class Indian man decides to throw his graduate son out of the family home for his inexcusable thug-like behaviour. But the tide turns when the son reveals he now knows the family secret, that his dad exchanged him at birth.
This story is really about the treatment of women, and examines the impact of culture that defines a baby girl is a liability, a burden, and a boy a blessing. Research during an Oxford University study found that over 1500 girls have ‘gone missing’ from birth statistics in England and Wales. Where did they go?’
