Evening Hymns are a Canadian indie folk-rock band and project of singer and songwriter Jonas Bonnetta.
Evening Hymns are sung from the cathedrals of tall trees. They capture the spirit of moments, of friends around a bonfire on a foggy beach and the crunching of snowshoes in the silence of a winter night.
Weirdo pop-rock sophisticates mauno must be four intensely bored individuals. Formed in September 2014, mauno – pronounced Mao-no, and named after bassist Eliza Niemi’s adamantly unmusical Finnish grandfather – have a wandering sound that refuses to be pinned down. Over the course of rough master it strays from twisting grunge-pop on ‘Again’, to a breezy lilt on ‘Champs’, to piano ambience (‘Pulses’) and string-accompanied haze (‘Reeling’) elsewhere. But then, what do you expect when Eliza has a background in classical cello and old R&B, while Nick boasts a record collection jammed with choral and folk? The result is an album that sounds like a windows-rolled- down summer road trip with the cast of Seinfeld. mauno were made in Halifax, but they’re ready to take on the planet and galaxies beyond.
Callum Pickard & The Third Look is the creation of 20 year old singer-songwriter Callum, a self-taught multi-instrumentalist and profound son of Coventry who is flourishing in the embers of a once integral music scene.
After acquiring a band of very close friends, luminous shows have included support slots for Kurt Vile’s guitarist Steve Gunn, Fat Possums’ Boogarins, Ryley Walker, Devon Sproule, Eliza and The Bear, Sun Club, The Propellers, Evening Hymns, Dan Owen, Andy Shauf and Quilt have seen the young group rise to their peers with confidence and impress crowds around the UK.
